About Passionate Housewives Desperate for God
(Coupon Code PHDGFREE)
Passionate Housewives Desperate for God
Have you struggled to reconcile God’s vision of virtuous womanhood with the worldly myths that marginalize and mock the role of the homemaker? Do you wrestle with cultural messages that demean the homemaker’s calling and exalt instead the emotionally androgynous power-woman—the wife whose worth is measured only by the degree of her ambition, the shape of her body, or her money-making skills? Such is the image of the “desperate housewife.”
In a delightfully fresh and honest way, Passionate Housewives Desperate for God addresses these issues head-on and provides fresh vision for the hopeful homemaker. Hear a former “Christian feminist” share how she went from a die-hard homemaker-in-training to a dedicated career woman and then back again—after God gripped her heart. See the hollow counterfeit of whitewashed feminism and “me-ology” destroyed. And consider the beautiful picture in Scripture of the truly fulfilled homemaker who glories in the hopeful calling God created for her.
Paperback. 206 pgs. Retail $16.
About The League of Grateful Sons
(Coupon Code LOGSFREE)
The League of Grateful Sons
What is the godly legacy of the fathers of World War II? Their story has not been told—until now! In The League of Grateful Sons, meet tough-as-nails-Marine “Colonel” Bill Henderson. He survived thirty-six days of brutal fighting on Iwo Jima. And meet P-51 Mustang flyboy Bill Brown. He was shot down over Japan, but survived to train generations to sing praises to God.
Now in their eighties, these ancient warriors return to the black sands of Iwo Jima to disciple a new generation in the art of Christian manhood.
DVD. 75 mins., plus bonus features. Retail $18.
Be sure to stop by Penny Raine’s site, where she will be giving away some of her own ebooks this month.

101 Free Recipe Books & Guides
We love cookbooks around here. In fact, there is always some sort of cookbook at the top of my daughter Audrey’s gift list. What is better than “a cookbook”? A *free* cookbook! And there are several free cookbooks currently available from various sources online – some mail order, and some in space-saving downloadable PDF format.
Most of the following recipe books do not appeal to me personally (as a vegetarian), but these two are the exception. The Vitalita Culinary Group has produced two free, original, on-line, vegan cookbooks (vegetarian/non-dairy e-cookbooks): A Taste of Vitality and Desserts of Vitality.

Over 90% of the recipes contained in these books are gluten free (no wheat, spelt, kamut, oats, barley, rye, etc.), and are therefore suitable for a person with celiac disease or a person (such as many on the autism spectrum) on a non-gluten diet. Many of the recipes are low-fat, and all recipes are nutrient dense. At this point, these two cookbooks contain over 150 original vegan recipes.
* Note: While the above cookbooks are available for free download, they are presented as shareware and a $10 contribution is suggested to benefit Vegan Outreach.
Merck and Go Red for Women from the American Heart Association are giving away free cookbooks to promote healthy eating. Just go here and play the Heart Smarts Challenge game. Once you earn 250 points and you can request the free cookbook.

TGIF – Show & Tell…and Freebies

SHOW AND TELL
I found out about the Show & Tell Friday memes (hosted by both Raising 4 Godly Men and There is No Place Like Home) while visiting Tiany’s blog, so I thought I would join in.
How about I begin with an explanation of that crazy Flying Pool Monkeys photo in my Wordless Wednesday post?
Yes folks, that photo is real…the only photoshop-ing I did to it was to resize it, then sharpen it a little. My children really are that crazy.
And Miles to Go asked how I got them all to do that at the same time. They did that all on their own. They backed up about 20 feet and took a running start, racing to the pool and jumping in all at the same time, seeing who could jump the highest. (“Gator”, the 12-year-old looks like he’s sky-diving…I think he won). After a few times, they were all calling, “Hey mom! Take a picture!” Obviously, I obliged.
Sheryl asked if this is an indoor pool. It isn’t. Here in Florida the majority of the houses have screened back patios (that’s what this is), with most also having a small covered area, called a lanai. If the pool is located on the patio, it is screened in as well. I don’t know if the reason for all of this screening is because we live in swamp land (which equals bugs), or because it doesn’t get cold enough here to kill off the critters in the winter (which equals even more bugs), but at any rate, the screening is nice. And it gives you an extra living space for most of the year (as well as keeping alligators out of the pool
). Except for in the coldest months, we spend more time out here than anywhere. We can sit out here in the evenings and listen to the frogs and crickets and the calls of the great horned owls without being eaten alive by mosquitos or no-see-ums.
And in praise of my screened lanai, and since I haven’t shared any recipes this week, how about this one?
The Lanai Sandwich
Makes 4 servings
Ingredients:
- 1 Can (8-ounce) pineapple slices (in juice)
- 1/4 Cup Reduced calorie mayonnaise
- 1 T Prepared mustard
- 1 Green onion, thinly sliced
- 1/8 Tsp Cayenne pepper
- 8 Slices 9-grain bread
- 4 Slices Baked ham
- 4 Slices Reduced fat Swiss cheese
- 4 Iceberg lettuce leaves
Method of Preparation:
- Place strainer inside a mixing bowl.
- Pour pineapple slices into strainer; drain.
- Combine 1 tablespoon of pineapple juice with mayonnaise, mustard, green onion, and cayenne.
- Spread over one side of each slice of bread.
- Lay four slices of bread flat on counter. Layer the ham, cheese, pineapple, lettuce, and remaining bread slices.
- Place on cutting board. Cut sandwiches in half on the diagonal and serve.

Want a FREE $50 Prepaid American Express Card?
We’ve had Vonage (internet phone) for the last couple of years (and have been quite happy with it). I received an email from them today, offering referral incentives.
Anyone I refer gets 1 free month of service + a $50 American Express card. I in turn get up to two months of free service and a $50 American Express card.
The fine print reads:
* Referee must sign up for Vonage by July 15, 2007 for the referrer and referee to receive the pre-paid card. Referee and Referrer must be in good standing for 30 days after referee signs up. After 30 days, eligible referrers and referees will receive their card at their Vonage mailing address.
So basically, it sounds like if you pay for 1 month’s service ($15.00), you will then get another month free, plus the $50. You can’t lose! Just for signing up, you will be coming out $50 ($35 cash and $15 service) ahead!
If you’re interested, either leave a comment with your email address, or send me an email (contact info in the sidebar) and I will refer you!
