Free Rocket Study Guides

October 14, 2009 by Janne

My middle-schoolers have been enjoying a Physics class that they’ve been taking during their Friday co-op class.  This was a class that they didn’t want to take, just because the name “Physics” sounded so frightening…but they LOVE it. They have been experimenting with such concepts as inertia, velocity, Newton’s third law of motion…and more.

In speaking with their teacher, I found out that most of the materials she was using came from a Rocket-themed guide that she had once ordered from NASA, for free. Wondering if the material might be available for download on the web, I went searching — and sure enough, it IS!

In fact, NASA has a complete section of their site dedicated to materials for educators: Check it out!  NASA – Educators

Free Teacher Resources – Florida Water

I am always excited to find (and share) *free* resources available to home educators!

While searching for more information about our current drought situation here in Florida, I noticed that there is a complete section on the Southwest Florida Water Management District’s website dedicated to free teacher’s resources!

There you will find coloring pages, activity sheets, booklets, study guides, posters, and more!  There are materials available for all ages, and all related to Florida’s water system (water conservation, hydrologic cycle, wetlands, habitat, water testing, etc).

If you are interested in more than just teaching resources, click here to find links to all of their free publications –  including resources for homeowners, such as A Guide to Florida-Friendly Landscaping.

Sharing another homeschool freebie…

I just love children’s book author and illustrator Jan Brett!

Quite a while ago I blogged about the free “how-to-draw-a-dolphin” drawing video she offered on her website. Now there are many other videos, with more added all the time!

In addition to the videos, Ms. Brett very generously offers an array of other freebies as well (according to her website, “4,147 pages of free activities, coloring pages, and projects” to date!).

And if you wish to know when new pages ares added, simply subscribe to her mailing list! The latest email I received from her lists links to 19 new pages of games and printables. :)

Election time is quickly approaching. It will be here before you know it! Although I still don’t have any children who are old enough to vote yet, I desire to teach them as much as I can about the process. The work has been done for me. I want to thank the following individuals for offering free resources for teaching about the election:

Offer is available until March 1st (use coupon code 6c89de at checkout).

Freebie Friday

I recently came across a very nice free resource for educators, DiscoverySchool.com! I have used their site from time to time for their Puzzlemaker, but just yesterday discovered their Quiz Center, which enables you to make and administer your own custom online quizzes!

Here is an example of one I made yesterday for Ant’s geography vocabulary words.
