When you’re stuck inside – in Florida – on a rainy day, you do what you can with what you have on hand. I first saw the idea on Pinterest several months ago, and filed it away (or “pinned” it) for such a time as this. The girls (“Dee”, 3, and “Curly-Top”, 8) had a lot of fun with it — constructing things out of marshmallows and straws!
How to:
I bought two packages of mini marshmallows (one plain and one fruity), and one package of straws from the Dollar Tree.
I then cut several straws (48 to be exact – 12 of each color) into two pieces; one small “elbow” piece, and one longer straight piece.
I then placed the marshmallows into two separate bowls, the large straws into a bowl, and the short straws into a bowl, and let the children get creative!
Letters and words seemed to be a common theme. I loved the way Curly Top spelled out “Mom”.
Will definitely do this activity again, but next time I will cut even more different sizes of straw. That way Curly Top won’t have to refer to her people as “giraffe people”. ;)
