As part of the September MOSI membership promotion, we took a homeschool field trip the Florida Aquarium. :)
When we first moved to Florida in 2005, we bought a membership to the aquarium and maintained it for a couple of years, visiting the aquarium often. But in recent years, we chose the MOSI membership over the aquarium, due to cost (and, in my opinion, a better reciprocal program). Because it had been a couple of years since our last visit the to the aquarium, it was a whole new experience for the younger children, particularly Dee (2).
The stingray touch tank; always a favorite
Dee was not sure what to think of the sharks!
The Group:
“Curly Top” (8), “Cricket” (9), “Rey” (6),
“Dinky Tumblina” (13), ”Dee” (2), “Lefty” (12), “Boo” (10)
Another touch tank!
Camouflage! Can you find the fish in this picture?
Dueling photographers
Sand and Water Play!
One of the most appealing aspects of the Florida Aquarium (to the younger set anyway), is the “Explore A Shore” area; an outdoor sand, water/splash zone.
After exploring the aquarium, we (well, they – not me) changed into swim suits, enjoyed a picnic lunch, and cooled off in the splash area for the remainder of the afternoon.

You have AMAZING photos of the Florida Aquarium!! How did you get the ones of the tank without reflections?? Do you mind if I post a couple of them on my field trip page about the aquarium? I put a link to the post above.
P.S. This is the next place I want to take my son… he loves Sea World.. but jelly fish have to be his favorites.

These are AMAZING photos!! How did you get them without reflections on the glass? I can’t wait to take my son here. He loves jelly fish. Do you mind if I use a couple of these photos on the blog post I did about the Florida Aquarium on my field trip site?

Thank you. I just turn off the flash when photographing anything in a glass enclosure. You may borrow photos if proper credit is given and linked back to here. :)
A Florida field trip site is a great idea, but may I suggest adding a category for homeschool? (Or information in the individual posts pertaining to homeschoolers). There are LOTS of us out there. :)
We love sea creatures! In January, when the Clearwater Aquarium is free for MOSI members, we will likely be doing a unit study on sea life (including dolphins and jellyfish), with lots of crafts and ocean themed activities. Be sure to check back! :)
I will bookmark your site for more field trip ideas.
