On Saturday, we all took another trek down south, to Sarasota, to visit the Mote Marine Research Center and Aquarium. It's one of my favorite places to visit. The aquarium itself is not “big” or particularly impressive, but Mote is a rescue and rehabilitation center for some animals that are near and dear to my heart: sea turtles, manatees, and dolphins.
In the parking lot of Mote, sits a bird sanctuary called The Pelican Man's Bird Sanctuary. We visited there on Saturday as well. Unlike the Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary that we usually visit, Pelican Man's had very few shore birds — but lots of raptors. Unfortunately we arrived at meal time — and as we all know, raptors aren't exactly vegetarians. There are certain aspects of the circle of life that I don't particularly like to observe. The kids thought it was cool though. :-O
Here are some photos from Saturday.
The highlight of Tumblina's day was getting stung by a jellyfish on her thigh when we stopped by the beach after our Mote visit. Surprisingly, with the amount of time we have spent at the beach in the last several months, it was our first encounter with a jellyfish.
