Day 1:
Trip to library to gather books and materials relating to study.

 
Day 2:
Introduction to Oceans – Lesson Plan 1:
All activities on lesson plan, including locating nearest ocean, bay, etc.

Label Oceans on blank map and color
Ocean vocabulary – write in science notebooks:
Archipelago
Bay

Older children look through maps and atlases, finding each of the vocabulary words.

Introduction to making books – Brainstorm ideas – Books about:
Oceans or specific oceans
Marine animals or certain marine animal
Sea-related poetry or quotes, illustrated
Sea-related artwork
Marine career

Day 3:
Review Oceans – See if they can remember where each is, and a little about each
What is a Fish? – Lesson Plan 2:

Vocabulary – write in science notebooks:
vertebrates
invertebrates
mollusks
mammal
fish
ichthyology
gills
fins
anal fin
caudal fin
dorsal fin
eye
lateral line
mouth
pectoral fin
pelvic fin

Using Fact Files from (http://www.learningpage.com) determine which are fish and color them.

Make graph from fact files, determining which are fish, mammals, birds, invertebrates, reptiles.

Learn the different parts of a fish, coloring the labeled printout
 

Day 4:
Fish Study Continued:
Review parts of fish by coloring and labeling 2nd printout
Fish Art – Go Fish

Day 5:
Adopt a Sea Creature – Lesson Plan 3

Make painting of animal chosen
Write or draw pictures of as many things you can think of that begin w/same letter as animal

Adopt a Sea Creature Continued
Make a lapbook or scrapbook page about your animal

Day 7:
Field Trip to Pier Aquarium – after church
